The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School seeks qualified candidates to fill anticipated openings for the position of Lower School Hebrew Language and Judaic Studies Teacher in grades Junior Kindergarten-5th grade for the 2023-2024 academic year.

This position will require instruction in Hebrew language arts and various other disciplines of Jewish learning and teaching and will require an individual who demonstrates a passion for education and a palpable love for and warmth with children while instructing students in the Hebrew and Judaic Studies curricular areas of Torah, Hagim/Jewish Festivals, and Tfilah/Prayer.

openness to professional reflection and feedback

strong written and verbal communication skills, preferably in native Hebrew, and comfort communicating orally and in writing in English

demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ)

Bachelors degree in Elementary or Early Childhood Education (or 90-hour MSDE course for Junior K candidates) or a related field required, with a Masters degree preferred and a minimum of 3-5 years of successful, formal lead-teaching experience in a public or independent school.

Work Environment:

Faculty may be asked to perform their work responsibilities on campus and/or at home. In both settings, the teacher is required to maintain a professional environment.

While on campus, classes may be operating either in person or in an alternative setting. Teachers are expected to be present and accessible for the entire school day (contracted hours) regardless of the setting.
